August Write Your Life Class at The Enrichment Academy
August 1 kicked off a new season of classes at The Enrichment Academy in The Villages. My Write Your Life class welcomed many new participants who are eager to learn tips and techniques to craft their life story. Also, they will have a chance to share writings with classmates for feedback to strengthen their work. I look forward to a few more weeks of writing together!
Adventures in Alaska and British Columbia
Highlights from our 2019 trip
After a reindeer burger for lunch in downtown Anchorage, we visited the Portage Glacier and then a nearby wildlife conservation area.
During this time of year, the sun in Denali only goes down for about three hours a night. Bob added another check on his golf-in-fifty-states list when he played golf on the tundra at midnight. We saw moose several times along the way. Then, we learned all about sled dog racing and met a few future champions.
We spent a day hiking in Denali park, closer to Mt. McKinley. Absolutely breathtaking!
We cruised the Alaskan waters and saw bears, whales, and beautiful glaciers. We lived on the balcony of our stateroom.
We hit the wildlife jackpot in Skagway, spotting bears, a whale, lots of bald eagles, and a seal. We also hiked through a forest and ate blueberries we picked along the way. Next, we made our way to Juneau.
After a day hiking the gorgeous Capilano Canyon, we cleaned up pretty well for a fancy dinner on the cruise ship.
Our view sailing into Vancouver, British Columbia, followed by an awesome trip atop Mendenhall Glacier via helicopter. Wow!
We spent a wonderful day in Victoria, B.C. surrounded by gorgeous flowers at the breathtaking Butchart Gardens. These pictures don’t even come close to capturing its magnificence. Then, we found more beauty in town at the inner harbor. I was in hydrangea heaven! The city is so pretty at night from our 29th-floor balcony.
Yes! Before we left the airport, we indulged in some delicious crab. They gave out bibs and gloves. Really? No self-respecting Cajun would ever wear gloves to eat crab! It was good but not as good as Tuttie would make. Afterward, a red-eye flight landed us safely back at home.
