After a full day of learning all about marketing, contracts, copyright, e-books and obtaining book reviews and testimonials, members of the 2012 Florida Publishers Association donned their fancy clothes and reassembled for a night of awards.
The banquet, featuring prime rib, mussels, clams, fish and crab legs, added to the excitement of the night. Even though I was in a dress and heels—something seen only once or twice a year—I put aside all semblance of sophistication in exchange for piles of crab legs. The people at our table, including Bob and M.J. Lucas, found it quite entertaining to see a dressed up Cajun digging into those crabs, but my husband Bob was not surprised. He’s used to seeing my family and I eat boiled crabs, crawfish, shrimp, and most everything else that swims when we visit South Louisiana.
After an hour or so, I shook off the bits of shells from my dress, washed my hands a few times in an attempt to get rid of the fishy smell, prepared to celebrate with the winners of the FPA’s President’s Awards, and hoped I’d be one as well.
Eating an Elephant: Write Your Life One Bite at a Time won a silver medal in the Self Help/Instruction category, which was announced by Chris Angermann, president of Florida Publisher’s Association and presented by Mark Wayne Adams, FPA board member.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks FPA for a fantastic conference and this great honor. Click here to see more photographs of a great evening.
