Recently, I heard Rodger Kamenetz, author of The History of Last Night’s Dream: Discovering the Hidden Path to the Soul, speak about the films that run unedited each night while we sleep.
Kamenetz said dreams are not stories, so we shouldn’t try to make sense of these nightly visitors. Instead, he urged listeners to pay attention to the images and feelings we have in response to the images, which he believes holds up a mirror to our souls. Hmm. Interesting stuff.
Since I heard that, I’ve been paying attention to the feelings I wake up with in response to my dreams. They make much more sense than the facts, but I’m not sure what they say about my soul.
What kind of dreamer are you? Do you remember your dreams? Are your dreams in color or black and white? Do you have the same dream repeatedly? Do the same people frequent your dreams? Have you ever had a flying dream?
Describe a memorable dream—one from last week or long ago.
- What images did the dream include?
- What feelings did you have?
- Did this dream enlighten you in any way?
