Writing Prompt: Your Love Story

This week’s newsletter is all about love and how that love manifests into stories told and memories made. In honor of the day, why don’t you tell us your love story?

You can interpret that any way you’d like. You can write about a spouse, a child, a parent, or a pet. You could write about the one that got away or your dream of a future love.

Write your love story in a document, then cut and paste it into the comments below. To possibly jumpstart your own memories, here’s my parents’ love story, which began sixty-five years ago: “Meant to Be” by Patricia Charpentier.

Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day!

I met his father first. He was black as coal, he held himself regally. I would stop and talk to him when I was out walking. Eventually he would come out to the fence when he saw me coming. I thought he was exceptional in every way.

I knew her from work; we worked in the same building. She caught up with me one day in the cafeteria. She said he was a father now. He had custody of his son. I should stop up when I had a chance and she would introduce me.

It was love at first sight. He was as white as his father was black. He was active and played with me as she and I talked. She wanted $50 for him, was I interested? Oh heavens yes. Over the weekend I paid her, got his papers and took him home. He was a beautiful German Shepherd, I had him for 15 years. He was killed by a coral snake while protecting my children, his children. He was my Schatzie, my sweetheart…
