One of my favorite parts of reading is when something jumps off the page and strikes me as something I wish I’d written. I especially love when life story writers are able to take something that everyone experiences and make it sound special and unique. Take a look at this little prose-ish poem:
I love how she writes very simply about both mundane things as well as large concepts, and gives them all equal weight within the poem. I think this is a model that we could all use as an exercise. Write your own version of Marianna’s poem about what you love, and be sure to include things that are both mundane and vast. Try to make each line different and surprising.
