Kyo Maclear, needing quiet, peace, and focus in a chaotic time in her life, took to urban birding in her bustling city of Toronto. Looking for connection, she found it when she turned her attention to something outside of herself. She tells this story of reconnection in Birds Art Life: A Year of Observation.

One quote from the book stood out to me, and I wanted to share it with you.  Maclear writes, “The birders I encountered in books and in the world shared little in common except this simple secret: if you listen to birds, every day will have a song in it.”

Every day will have a song in it.

I think writing gives a similar gift. If you write a little each day, you will feel a beautiful connection to the world around you.  You will pay attention. You will see more beauty. Writing connects you to the past, and it makes you present and in-the-moment.

Maybe you can keep that quote in mind during this busy season. Maybe we can all try to listen more, and hear a little more birdsong.
