Can you believe it’s November? For some, that means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, and the sound of the clock ticking down is growing louder. For others who love to write, it’s the first day of National Novel Writing Month!
Also known as NaNoWriMo, this online program is a fun, unconventional approach to creative writing. The challenge: draft an entire novel during the month of November, starting November 1, with a word-count goal of 50,000 words. That’s right– for 30 days, lock away your internal editor, and let your creativity take over. A “novel” can be any genre you choose. Use your own method of writing, whether by hand or word processor. Update your word counts in your NaNoWriMo profile as frequently (or infrequently) as you like, although daily is a great goal. If you get stuck, need inspiration or encouragement, check out the many Writer’s Forums to stay motivated. NaNoWriMo participants must submit final word counts by 11:59 PM on November 30. If you meet your 50,000 word goal, you can officially join NaNoWriMo’s winner’s circle and, most importantly, have the satisfaction of a completed draft!
I know we’re already 9 days into the month, but if you’d like a push to keep your creative work on track this month, consider joining writers from all over the world in NaNoWriMo the November. Start today!
