Wow, what a night! The first ever Show, Tell, Write kicked off with a bang Tuesday, June 28th. Nineteen people brought cherished possessions and shared the items and the stories behind them to an enthusiastic audience at Infusion Tea in College Park.
Show, Tell, Write meets every month on the third Tuesday of the month starting in August (next month’s will still be July 26th) and is jointly sponsored by Patricia Charpentier of Writing Your Life, Bookmark It bookstore, and Infusion Tea.
Everything from love letters on sticky notes to a mysterious photo in an album labeled only Mr. XYZ, a ring passed down for generations, jewelry given by mothers and grandmothers, a rag left in a boat’s fuel tank that caused great problems, a grandmother’s special cookie recipe, and more took center stage as people shared the significance and stories these items bore.

Once everyone finished showing and telling, Patricia presented a short writing lesson to the group and then allowed a few minutes for each person to begin writing the story his/her possession holds. Several people then volunteered to share their wonderful words.
Story is what connects us to one another, and that fact was obvious when Show, Tell, Write ended. People sought out each other for close-up looks at cherished possessions and to share related stories.
If you participated in this fun night, share your experience with us in the comments section below. We’d love to hear from you.

Such fun meeting new and old friends! It was so interesting seeing what others brought and hearing the stories behind it.Great venue too—the tea was wonderful, the bookstore full of fun greeting cards and other odds and ends, and of course great books. I hope to be able to make it next month!

What a great way to get together for laughs, some tears, and opportunities to connect. I learned a lot about my friends from their stories and felt energized meeting new people and hearing what they had to say. I can’t wait til the next event. Also, I bought my dad a 5 year journal that Patricia has on hand and he loves it. I am going to buy myself one and start writing this month!
