Port of Call: Falmouth, Jamaica

falmouth (1)Jamaica has long been a mainstay of Caribbean vacations as a year-round haven for sun and fun-seekers, filled with jungled mountains and waterfalls, beautiful sandy beaches, and notoriously friendly locals. The Port of Falmouth is on Jamaica’s North coast, slightly east of Montego Bay, and is a new addition to Royal Caribbean’s cruising itinerary.

In 2011, the Port of Falmouth completed its renovations and opened its reinvigorated commercial port as a new and fresh destination for cruise ship passengers.  The retail district built surrounding the historic port is a trove of modern shoppers’ delights, with designer boutiques, fine jewlery, and restaurants. Its international flavor extends through the modern port, and beyond into the surrounding city of Falmouth. The historical architecture in the city proper remains: a lasting display of beautiful Georgian Architecture. The government of Jamaica invested in a new and modern port infrastructure and retail/restaurant hub to help bring more tourists to the local businesses, so beyond the comfort and familiarity of the modern port, the local artisans are welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about their home and have a lot to offer.

Whatever your travel style: adventurous excursions, exploring local culture and craft, or just relaxing at the water’s edge in the comfort of the snazziest modern amenities, Falmouth has it all.
